The role

We are looking for a Software Engineer driven by curiosity and who wants to solve challenging problems yet untackled. Software is a key element of our company. The discipline that glues together our assay, our data and our operations. This is a position where you can design, build, test and ship software while making a difference to the world. We are developing state of the art algorithms, highly distributed computational infrastructures, analysis environments and rich visualization tools. 

You are an engineer whose passion is to help others to get the most out of their data by building infrastructure and software solutions. You also have a flair for analysis, and visualization. You have proven experience of working in collaborative environments in biotech or academia. 

In this role, you will be mentored by the CDAO and work hand-in-hand with other senior colleagues. You will have ample opportunity to learn new and exciting things. We are now building our software team and seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and adventurous team member to join us on our journey. 

This position requires approx. 40-60% on-site presence in Pixelgen’s Stockholm office.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, build, test and ship Pixelgen Technologies production-ready software

• Keep updated with most current industry practices and apply them

• Be an ambassador for good software development practices at Pixelgen Technologies

• Foresee and tackle with your colleagues architectural challenges in order to best scale up

• Developing interactive applications for both the web and the high-performance systems that empower our RnD team

• Developing customer-facing software for academic, biotech and pharma clients

• Collaborating with our Design Lead to create intuitive and memorable user interfaces and experiences

• Make use of prototyping in an Agile manner and quick iterations to demonstrate proof of concepts

• Participate in recruitment of the most talented software engineers

• Help product management, business development and leadership teams to understand competitive market forces and determine which new features and services to build

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional software development experience

• Experiences in software team best practices

• Significant experience developing web applications with using one or more common development frameworks and best practices associated to organization of these kind of applications

• Knowledge of modern Javascript/TypeScript and CSS features

• Demonstrated experience developing data-driven systems with scientific applications in the cloud. Knowledge of different cloud infrastructures and automatic deployment systems

• Well-honed engineering skills that are language or platform agnostic, but specific preference for Python, Rust, C/C++ and interfacing across these. 

• Detailed knowledge of Linux-based operating systems with strong understanding of performance effect, file systems, network layers, compilers, DBMS and language runtimes

• Knowledge of the development life-cycle including automated software testing and devops practices.

• Experience in deploying applications either to the cloud or within a production manufacturing environment.

• Experience designing long-term data storage in a variety of database systems and cloud stores, and the knowledge to know what storage schemes and solutions are best suited for Pixelgen Technologies data types

• Analytical mindset and quantitative thinking

• Collaborative spirit with excellent communication skills

• High self-motivation: take initiatives, have the ability to run multiple parallel activities and at the same time have the ability to keep focus to reach project goals according to set timelines

Preferred requirements

• Previous delivery of software for the main mobile platforms

• Mastering at implementing high-performance graph algorithms and using software libraries, APIs or systems that deal with graph structures and methods

• Problem-solver regardless of the tech stack being used

• Demonstrated experience contributing to open source software professionally or as side projects

• A PhD or background in biology is not required, but scientific curiosity and data-driven decision making is encouraged across the company
